John-Mark Payne lives in Haigslea South-East Queensland . With over twenty years of experience in breaking and training, John has developed a proven method for starting young horses that produces successful mounts every time. When starting young horses, John prepares them for further education in all disciplines. They are taught all basic groundwork and flatwork including leading, tieing up and lunging obediently, with a focus on bringing out their natural movement. The horses are taught to be supple and accepting of the aids. They are ridden in the arena, out in a large paddock as well as alongside the road. This prepares young horses for foriegn environments and unusual situations.
John-Mark began riding horses at the age of three. . John worked on stations in North Queensland and the Northern Territory, also competing in rodeos all over Australia with multiple wins and placings. He adds to his list of achievements the prestigious title of National Rodeo Association Saddle Bronc Champion.
John also competed in Western Reining for many years, winning the Queensland Restricted Open Futurity on his horse Tom's Eddie in 2004, as well becoming a finalist in the National Open Futurity at Sydney in the same year. John's reining horses were trained by himself, while he received dressage lessons from Fiona Williams and Vivian Wearing. He still trains with Vivian to further enhance his expertise.
The progressive aproach to dressage appealed to John, as he has a deep passion for working with horses, although currently he chooses to focus more on training his own horses than competing, with help from Glennys Barry, Nicole Tough, Vivian Wearing and Nancye Jack, John is training his horse Arthur to advanced levels of dressage.
